1 Adams, Tony The Cricket Quiz Book
Australia Penguin 2003 0143001884 / 9780143001881 1st Edition Glossy Pictorial Soft Cover Very Good 12mo
187 pages including b/w photos. Whether you are a cricket fan, trivia buff or ‘cricket tragic, this book will test you. Try out your knowledge of our favourite summer game with teasers like: Which player once scored a double century and took 16 wickets in a Sheffield Shield game? Who was the last Australian to carry his bat through a Test innings? Who hit the highest one-day international score by an Australian? Which bishop played Test cricket for England? Drawing on the game's rich history - from the earliest interstate games in Australia and the first Test match in 1877 to Australia's triumph in the 2003 World Cup - this book has something to stump everyone. Compiled by Tony Adams, a former sports journalist for the Sydney Daily Telegraph and now senior writer on Rugby League Week, The Cricket Quiz Book is not just a quiz book or a compilation of cricket trivia, but a fascinating compendium of the history of the game, its controversies and its heroes.

The wit of Cricket, Brayshaw, Ian
2 Brayshaw, Ian The wit of Cricket
Australia Currawong Press 1981 090800107 1st Australian Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good 12mo
111 pages including black & white photos and full page cartoons by Bill Mitchell. The Wit of Cricket celebrates the marvelous humour - a special blend of dry wit and boisterous fun - that has always had its place in the great game. From W.G.Grace to Demiis Lillee, from the Melbourne Cricket Ground to Lords, from New Zealand to the West Indies, here are the stories from behind the scenes - or at least out of earshot of most spectators. Some are wild, all are droll and most are side splitting. The majority of the yarns involve the great players, but others have been gleaned from the fans, administrators, umpires, the cricket media and even the odd junior... the world of cricket. And who better to illustrate this collections of witticisms than cartoonist Bill Mitchell? He is, after all, an avid fan hnnself. There is also a foreword by Dennis Lillee and some dashing photographs, both old and new. Ian ‘Sticks’ Brayshaw has been part of the Australian cricketing scene for 20 years, and he is still part of it, though retired as a player. He loves the game, its characters, and its champions. No cricketer or cricket fan will be able to put this book down. And even those who are bewildered by the intricacies of the grand game will appreciate that this sport, at least, is in no danger of losing its sense of humour. There is a blacked out stamp in the front fly.

First Tests: Great Australian Cricketers and the Backyards That Made Them, Cannane, Steve
3 Cannane, Steve First Tests: Great Australian Cricketers and the Backyards That Made Them
Australia ABC Books 2009 0733321143 / 9780733321146 1st Edition Pictorial Soft Cover Good 12mo
231 pages including b/w illustrations. Australia has dominated test cricket over the past 130 years. But it's not the formal cricket academies or high-end coaching that are responsible for the Australian cricket team's winning ways. The backyard has been the real academy of Australian cricket. Don Bradman's unique grip, stance and backlift all evolved in response to the pace at which the golf ball rebounded off the tank stand in his backyard games. Greg Chappell's trademark flick off the hip shot was invented on his backyard wicket where the best scoring opportunities lay on the leg side. Alan Davidson bowled accurately because he had to. If he missed the stumps on his home-made pitch, he had to chase the ball down the hill into the scrub. Doug Walters played spin with ease because his ant-bed backyard pitch spun like a top. Neil Harvey's immaculate footwork came from playing balls that darted viciously off the cobblestones in his back lane. This collection of cricketers and the stories of the backyards that made them gets to the heart and soul of their game. Facing up to hostile brothers on dodgy pitches created a love of competition and developed the skills and the toughness that took them to the top in test cricket.

Australia ABC Books 2001 0733310214 / 9780733310218 1st Edition Glossy Pictorial Soft Cover Good 12mo
168 indexed pages including b/w illustrations. Cricket is an extraordinary game - and a great deal of its drama and excitement comes from players’ first appearances and their last. Perhaps the most heart- wrenching debut was by Dr Roy Park, who scared a first ball duck and was never selected again. On the other hand, Graham Gooch made a pair in his Test debut and retired ‘I ‘I8 Tests later after making nearly 9000 runs. The final appearance of a star performer can be equally glorious, or inglorious. In his farewell Test at Sydney in I983-84, Greg Chappell eclipsed Sir Donald Bradman’s Test batting aggregate. However, no swan song is so much a part of cricketing folklore as Bradman’s final Test at the Oval in I948, when he made a second-ball nought. Kersi Meher-Hon? has made a persona! selection of some of the most famous and/or dramatic debuts and farewells in Test, ?rst class and international cricket history. Illustrated with sometimes rare photographs, meticulously researched and written with clarity and a twinkle in the eye, this book is a rich and fascinating source of cricketing lore. Kersi Meher-Homji is an Australian journalist, author and biographer. He writes often for the Sydney Morning Herald.
