2 Come, Holy Spirit, renew the whole creation: six Bible studies on the theme of the Seventh Assembly of the World Council of Churches
Australia Joint Board of Christian Education 1989 0858197782 / 9780858197787 1st Edition Glossy Pictorial Soft Cover Very Good 12mo
108 pages including b/w illustrations. "Come, Holy Spirit - Renew the Whole Creation." That prayer is the theme chosen for the Seventh Assembly of the World Council of Churches, which will meet in Canberra, Australia, 7 to 20 February 1991. Presented in this book are six Bible studies around the Assembly theme. Beginning with our confession of faith in the Holy Spirit, we go on to study the theme as a whole, and the four sub-themes which provide the link between our confession and the demands it makes on us as we try to live our faith from day to day. Included in each study is a wealth of comments and testimonies from friends in many parts of the world. By being involved in these studies as groups of Christian people, all of us can prepare for and contribute to the Canberra Assembly - and allow the renewal we pray for to start with us in our congregation and our local community.

What Jesus Saw from the Cross, A. G. Sertillanges
6 A. G. Sertillanges What Jesus Saw from the Cross
USA Sophia Institute Press 1996 0918477379 / 9780918477378 Soft Cover Very Good 8vo
244 pages. Never has there been spiritual reading as powerful as What Jesus Saw from the Cross, the book that will intensify your love of Jesus by burning the events of His Passion into your memory and imagination. Written early in this century by Rev. A. G. Sertillanges, a priest who lived in Jerusalem, this acclaimed devotional classic gives you vivid and dramatic details not included in the Gospel: With Jesus, you'll be jostled by crowds as you enter Jerusalem, choke on the dust of the narrow streets, experience the exotic oriental smells of the city at festival time, share the Last Supper with the disciples, stare into the face of Jesus' accusers, and be there as He dies on the Cross. Do you remember when Jesus begged His disciples to "watch one hour" with Him in the Garden of Gethsemane? With this book, you can watch not just one but many hours with Jesus. Read it slowly and prayerfully. The vivid details and the gripping narrative will soon take over: you'll find yourself engaged in a personal retreat, an interior pilgrimage, and a profound meditation on the love and sufferings of Jesus on the Cross. From Christ's Cross, you'll: Recall with Him the history of His people, while gazing lovingly on Mount Zion the "City of David" cradled within the walls of Jerusalem. Search the faces in the crowd below, finding there the malice of enemies, the dismay of friends, and the indifference of so many others. Find comfort in the tender love revealed in the sorrowful face of His Blessed Mother. Look across Jerusalem to the Mount of Olives, the road to Bethany, the Upper Room, the Garden of Gethsemane . . . and remember with Jesus the holy deeds He performed in each of these places. Recall the forty days in the desert, the marriage at Cana, the baptism by John, the calling of the Apostles, and the other events of His holy ministry, now brought to fearful consummation on the Cross.

Australia Peace Publishing 2002 0646418491 / 9780646418490 1st Edition Soft Cover Good 8vo
267 pages. God is progressively releasing into the earth powerful apostolic and prophetic anointings, and is restoring the apostolic nature of the church itself! Every Christian needs to prayerfully consider the message of this book, and hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. The change is ongoing, and God is acting in the history of the church and nations. The Apostolic Revelation unveils a series of dynamic concepts that are crucial to the life of the church and the restoration of its apostolic power. It establishes benchmarks for the apostolic ministry, and gives definition to the apostolic structure of the church. Here is a revelation of apostolic methods, and Godís heart for the church and its leadership. In this study, todayís apostolic message is harmonised with and grounded in the apostolic revelation of Christ given to Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. This work is the result of 13 years of inquiry, searching the mind of the Spirit regarding the place of apostles today, and seeking to understand what it means for the church to be the mature apostolic church. Apostolic grace is for every believer. This book seeks to equip you to receive a greater grace, and prepare you for the astounding days ahead.

The Mass of the Early Christians, Aquilina, Mike
8 Aquilina, Mike The Mass of the Early Christians
USA Our Sunday Visitor 2007 1592763200 / 9781592763207 2nd Edition Soft Cover Very Good 12mo
255 indexed pages. What did the first Christians believe about the Eucharist? How did they follow Jesus' command, "Do this in remembrance of me"? How did they celebrate the Lord's Day? What would they recognize in today's Mass? The answers may surprise you.In The Mass of the Early Christians, respected author, scholar, and television host Mike Aquilina reveals the Church's most ancient Eucharistic beliefs and practices. Using the words of the early Christians themselves -- from many documents and inscriptions -- Aquilina traces the history of the Mass from Jesus' lifetime through the fourth century. That the Mass stood at the center of the Church's life is evident in the Scriptures, as well as the earliest Christian sermons, letters, artwork, tombstones, and architecture. Even the pagans bore witness to the Mass in the records of their persecutions. These legacies from the early Church bear witness to the same worship Catholics know today: the altar, the priest, the chalice of wine, the bread, the Sign of the Cross ...the "Lord, have mercy" ...the "Holy, holy, holy" ...and the Communion.

Creationís Cry: The Heart of Apostolic Passion, Atkin, Don
10 Atkin, Don Creationís Cry: The Heart of Apostolic Passion
Don Atkin 1931527970 / 9781931527972 Glossy Pictorial Soft Cover Very Good 12mo
224 pages. In a day when so many either ignore apostolic ministry, or others pervert its meaning, it is a joy to read and understand the big picture of what the Lord has purposed for His Church. There's so much rich wisdom Don conveys in "Creation's Cry". According to Steve Eastman, "Don Atkin began his journey with God in 1963. He was firmly entrenched in the church system. A few years later he migrated from sunny California to snowy, upstate New York. His story brought back memories of other families I had met in the church system, who experienced miraculous provision as they sold out to God and trusted Him to meet all their needs. But God is not static. Neither was He content to allow Don Atkins to camp out at his initial understanding of the Kingdom of God. Don ended up on the receiving end of two mentoring relationships that helped him move beyond the traditional paradigm of church. It seems much of the church is obsessed with saving souls, which it subsequently abandoned. The New Testament emphasizes discipling newly born believers. For Don, that came to include hosting long-time house guests, who caught the Christian life by watching Jesus live out His life through him and his family. Don is not a hierarchical guy. He sees apostles as wise master builders whose influence stems from their function, not a position. A manís gifts make room for him, and people gifted to be apostles come to be recognized as such through the fruit in their lives. Don did not obey his mentors because they demanded it, but because he recognized God working through them. Mentoring is intended to be temporary, leading the disciple to where he can hear God for himself, no longer needing a constant intermediary. I would be less than honest if I said everything in the book blessed me. One part was disturbing because it illustrates a style of parenting in sharp contrast to my own. Don tells about a time when his daughter was arriving from school. He had always told her to come straight home. At 20 minutes past the deadline, Don went to look for her and found her talking to a boy. He sent her to her room until he had cooled off, went in to speak with her and accepted her apology. They he spanked her with a paddle. He says she took it well. In my opinion, what worked for Don and his daughter, would not work for the majority of families. A child who was spanked after being told she was forgiven would normally feel betrayed and resentful. Just as a disciple needs to be gradually given more responsibility before the end of a discipling relationship, I feel a child needs to grow in decision-making before reaching adulthood. Otherwise, he or she is not ready to accept adult responsibilities. If a daughter is old enough to be interested in boys, she is probably too old to spank. A more appropriate punishment would be a loss of privilege. Perhaps if Don had included his daughterís age in the story, his actions would have been more understandable. I do not wish to belabor my one area of disagreement with a book I found to be otherwise sound. Don Atkins has a lot to offer in practical experience as he teaches on the apostolic. You will learn more from him than you would at most apostolic-prophetic conferences."

Australia Connor Court Publishing Pty Ltd 2012 1921421665 / 9781921421662 1st Edition Pictorial Soft Cover Good 12mo
157 pages. "With an engaging blend of scriptural reflection, theological investigation and very personal and human stories of struggle, confusion and journeys in faith, Father Ken Barker has provided his readers with a very real reason to live their lives in hope. Over and over again he shows us that the basis for this hope is Jesus Christ. As Father Barker insists, however, there is a world of difference between knowing about Christ and knowing Christ. It is when we encounter him as a living presence in our lives today, rather than simply an interesting and perhaps inspiring figure from the past, that our lives begin to be transformed by his saving grace. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know Jesus better, love him more and serve him with generosity and courage." - Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB - Archbishop of Perth. Fr Ken Barker is the founder of the Missionaries of God's Love, a new emerging congregation in the Australian Church. He is a well-known conference speaker, involved in charismatic renewal, Disciples of Jesus Community, Young Men of God Movement, and various other youth ministries. He is the author of the books Becoming Fire, A Radical way of Love, Young Men Rise Up, and His Name is Mercy. Creases and wear.

USA Ave Maria Pr 1993 0877935009 / 9780877935001 1st Edition Soft Cover Good 12mo
143 pages. Father William Barry believes that God wants an intimate relationship with each one of us - and that the deepest desire of our own hearts is to have an intimate relationship with God. Yet while we pursue this desire and long for its satisfaction, we also resist it - which can lead to a painful stagnancy. How can we move forward? In this book, Fr. Barry serves as our spiritual director, leading us on a series of brief "retreats" to help us understand the foundations of our relationship with God, what threatens it, and how we can continuously move forward into a closer and more meaningful relationship with God. In his warm, conversational style, Barry offers meditations, poses questions, and gently encourages us to respond to God's immeasurable love by following what is truly in each of our hearts - a longing to love him in return.
