This Is IT and Other Essays on Zen and Spiritual Experience, ALAN WATTS
1 ALAN WATTS This Is IT and Other Essays on Zen and Spiritual Experience
UK Rider 1978 0091347319 / 9780091347314 Glossy Pictorial Soft Cover Very Good 12mo
159 pages. "The most impressive fact in man's spiritual, intellectual, and poetic experience has always been ... the universal prevalence of those astonishing moments of insight which Richard Bucke called 'cosmic consciousness'" (in "This is it" first sentence). This book offers six essays, written between 1956 and 1960 which deal with the relationship between mystical experience and everyday life. The author claims that we need to disentangle ourselves from habits of speech and thought which make it impossible to see that everyday experience is the real thing. The title essay on cosmic consciousness includes the author's account of his own experiences in the inner realm. 'Instinct, Intelligence and Anxiety' is a study of the paradoxes of self - consciousness; Spirituality and Sensuality' presents a lively debate on the false opposition of spirit and matter; and 'The New Alchemy' gives a balanced account of the states of consciousness akin to spiritual experience. This collection also includes the text of the.author's celebrated pamphlet 'Beat Zen, Square Zen and Zen.'

Myth and Today's Consciousness, Berg, Ean
7 Berg, Ean Myth and Today's Consciousness
U. K. Coventure 1986 0904575306 / 9780904575309 1st Edition Pictorial Soft Cover Good 12mo
112 pages. The image, or persona, to which it is expected one should conform in the new age, whether we call it Aquarian, post- Christian, nuclear, or space, is already revealing itself. It is both more individual and more generalized than its predecessor. The new tide runs strongly against the accidental differences that divide us, like class, nationality and religion, flowing rather with the essential qualities which unite us. Much light has been shed on the nature of these qualities by the twentieth century phenomenon of depth psychology. As a result, we are becoming more sceptical of the prophet and the hero and the guru who claims special knowledge or virtue - or at least we ought to be - and more aware of the shadow that contradicts and counteracts the aspirations of the idealist, more conscious and tolerant of the paradoxical multiplicity of human nature....The gods and their myths are mighty forces which grip the psyche; they are never more dangerous than when they are ignored, repressed or slighted. So this book is very much concerned with religion, Christianity, and the predecessors which it supplanted, and the present state of our relationship with the gods. This is a presumptuous aim which will rely heavily for its fulfillment on a subjective, intuitive assessment of the signs of the times. Particular emphasis will be placed on the need to become more conscious of the deities with whom we appear to be on bad terms. The book is apologetically polytheistic in the same way that the circle of the horoscope contains the signs and the planets and the Tarot deck its multitude of archetypal images. (excerpts from book's preface)

Kindle My Heart: Wisdom and Inspiration from a Living Master - Volume I, Chidvilasananda, Gurumayi
11 Chidvilasananda, Gurumayi Kindle My Heart: Wisdom and Inspiration from a Living Master - Volume I
USA Prentice Hall Press 1991 0135153476 / 9780135153475 1st Edition Glossy Pictorial Soft Cover Good 12mo
214 indexed pages. Gurumayi Chidvilasananda, the living Master of the ancient Siddha lineage, says that the civilized ego does not allow us to go inside ourselves and perceive the Truth. Gurumayi tells us that the Truth, the essence of our being, is present at every moment and we must make the effort to go within and find it. Speaking about the path of Siddha Yoga, Gurumayi says, In the beginning you might think that it is esoteric or beyond your reach . . . but when the experience of the Self takes place you realize how close it is to you. In the opening chapter of this long-awaited collection of talks, Gurumayi sets the scene for the contemplation of the Truth. Baba Muktananda used to say that in the modern age people do not like to use the word God. They speak of ‘Consciousness,’ ‘your full potential,’ ’what you really are,’ or ‘the meditative energy.’ What can we do? This is the world we live in. In these days people don't seem able to take the Truth as it is. We have to change it in order to like it." But Gurumayi does not make that compromise. As she says, "God is within, beauty is within, divinity is within: This is an age-old message. However, just saying it is not enough. We have to contemplate it. It is said that man is what he thinks . . . When you contemplate the Truth, you become the Truth. And the Truth, she tells us, "is always full . . . absolutely satisfying."

Our "rise" depends on higher consciousness and raised vibration as well as the expanded awareness of a critical mass of people. As humanity enters the evolutionary transition from "Homo sapiens" to "Homo luminous"--from 3rd-dimensional human beings to 5th-dimensional beings of light--we are being called to fully participate in the dawn of a New World built upon unconditional love, co-support, cooperation, equality, unity, peace, justice, and sustainability. Sounding the clarion call for a global shift in consciousness starting at a personal level, Nicolya Christi presents a step-by-step guide to healing and transforming your inner world--an essential step toward co-creating a world shift as we enter the world beyond the tipping point of 2012. She offers core psychological insights and exercises, spiritual teachings, guided visualizations, and a concise overview of the spiritual and astronomical events surrounding 2012, as well as identifying the signs and symptoms of the 12 different stages of ascension, a process that millions are currently experiencing during this global spiritual awakening. She explains how to clear past-life, ancestral, and current trauma imprints lodged within your energy field to accelerate the process of conscious evolution and ascension. Revealing that many people chose to reincarnate in this lifetime as "midwives" to help birth the New World, this book provides a way to rediscover your soul's higher purpose, thus serving your own evolutionary journey as well as that of the Earth. Nicolya Christi is a conscious evolutionist, writer, spiritual teacher and mentor, global activist, and workshop facilitator. Turning Suffering Inside Out, Cohen, Darlene
14 Cohen, Darlene Turning Suffering Inside Out
U.S.A. Shambhala Pubns 2002 1570628173 / 9781570628177 1st Edition Pictorial Soft Cover Very Good 12mo
250 pages. Darlene Cohen discovered the secret to finding happiness in the midst of debilitating pain. She shares her knowledge in her workshops and now in this book. Cohen, who has suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for 18 years, was hobbling painfully to her local Zen centre one day, when she made a discovery that changed her life: if she focused on the foot that was in the air rather than the one that was hitting the pavement, her stamina increased enormously. It was the beginning of a completely different approach to the crippling pain that had beset her for so long. As she demonstrates here, this approach can be expanded to all types of pain: physical, psychological, and spiritual. Cohen - a certified massage and movement therapist and Zen teacher - proposes a radically liberating alternative to the usual desperate search for pain relief: paradoxically, she says, release from suffering lies in paying closer attention to it. When we keep pain at bay, we keep pleasure at bay, too. The two are interdependent, and our ability to experience each is totally dependent on our understanding of the other. Darlene Cohen is a Zen teacher who counsels chronic pain clients and gives arthritis workshops, classes, lectures, and pain seminars in private practice and at medical facilities and meditation centers throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as Spokane, Washington, and Evanston, Illinois. She is author of "Arthritis: Stop Suffering, Start Moving--Everyday Exercises for Body and Mind. "

A History of Buddhism in Australia 1848-1988, Croucher, Paul
15 Croucher, Paul A History of Buddhism in Australia 1848-1988
Australia New South Wales Univ Pr Ltd 1989 0868401951 / 9780868401959 1st Edition Glossy Pictorial Soft Cover Good 12mo
viii + 147 indexed pages including b/w illustrations and bibliography. For over 100 years ‘ordinary’ Australians as well as prime ministers, writers and painters‘, dissatis?ed with the answers provided by conventional religion, have turned to Buddhism, attracted by its universal message: that the solution to the problems of existence lies within each individual, requiring no external or supernatural aid. This book chronicles the history of Buddhism in Australia and its in?uence on our poetry, art and religious life. It traces the threads of interest in 19th century spiritualism and theosophical Buddhism, through the establishment of the ?rst ongoing Buddhist societies in the early 1950s, and beyond to the ‘hippy’ trail and Indo-Chinese refugees. Ironically, in many ways this is a story of groups within the Buddhist movement strenuously opposed to each other, with rationalists pitted against transcendentalists, the vehemently anti-'-Christian against eclectics, iconoclasts against traditionalists, and more recently, the 12 000 or so Anglo-Australian Buddhists against their 70 000 ethnic brothers and sisters. A colourful mosaic of eccentrics, charlatans, domineering personalities, together with the occasional saintly character, makes Buddhism in Australia an intriguing book of interest far beyond practising Buddhists.
