131 indexed pages including b/w illustrations. A book for everyone who likes to eat imaginative and appealing food which is easy to prepare and which promotes health and fitness. Not only a collection of recipes, this cookbook also contains important information about sources of salt in food, how to reduce our salt intake, and how to lower blood pressure and cholesterol and lose weight. Used in the ABC-TV series, Bodyshow, the book has recipes for breakfasts, soups, snacks, sandwiches and starters, seafood, poultry, meat, rice and pasta, vegetables, salads, sauces, stuffings and salad dressings, desserts, breads, cakes and biscuits. There is also a kilojoule counter and a section on cooking hints which includes details of recommended foods and foods to avoid. The recipes and dietary information come from Caryl Nowson,a trained nutritionist and dietitian who, for five years, has been involved in the extensive counselling of patients in the Hypertension Clinic at Melbourne's Repatriation General Hospital. She was co-ordinating dietitian for the Australian Dietary Salt Study from 1983 to 1986 and, in the words of Trefor Morgan, Professor of Physiology at Melbourne University, 'is uniquely qualified to write this book'.
