Australia Budget Books 1989 Reprint Stapled Pictorial Cover Good 12mo Nancy Klein
63 pages including drawings. How many times have you wanted to sing a song to your child and found you could not remember the words? This has happened to us so many times that we decided to compile a book of our favourite songs and fingerplays to share with our forgetful friends and their wee ones. Music can create a special closeness and joy to those who experience it together. However, for a child, there is more to music than mere enjoyment. Language development, muscular co-ordination, body awareness, rhythmic proficiency, auditory discrimination and self-confidence are a few of the benefits acquired from an early exposure to music. The young child is eager for musical and rhythmic experiences, thus providing a perfect time to introduce songs and fingerplays. Music can also provide a positive resource for approaching those crisis situations with children. As the hour of waiting in the doctor’s office is drawing to a critical climax, nimble those fingers, begin “Three Little Monkeys” and feel the knot in your stomach untie. Or, as the road sign reads 20 more kilometres, bellow out “a chick, chick here” and watch the scowl on Dad’s face disappear as he joins in with “a chick, chick there.” Music may be the answer in moving from crisis to calm. We want to thank our many friends who have contributed to this book. For them, and for you, we hope Wee Sing will bring many special, enjoyable times with your wee ones.

Hindu Nationalism: Origins, Ideologies and Modern Myths, Bhatt, Chetan
13 Bhatt, Chetan Hindu Nationalism: Origins, Ideologies and Modern Myths
United Kingdom Berg Pub 2001 1859733484 / 9781859733486 1st Edition Pictorial Soft Cover Good 12mo
232 indexed pages. The rise of authoritarian Hindu mass movements and political formations in India since the early 1980s raises fundamental questions about the resurgence of chauvinistic ethnic, religious and nationalist movements in the late modern period. This book examines the history and ideologies of Hindu nationalism and Hindutva from the end of the last century to the present, and critically evaluates the social and political philosophies and writings of its main thinkers. Hindu nationalism is based on the claim that it is an indigenous product of the primordial and authentic ethnic and religious traditions of India. The book argues instead that these claims are based on relatively recent ideas, frequently related to western influences during the colonial period. These influences include eighteenth and nineteenth century European Romantic and Enlightenment rationalist ideas preoccupied with archaic primordialism, evolution, organicism, vitalism and race. As well as considering the ideological impact of National Socialism and Fascism on Hindu nationalism in the 1930s, the book also looks at how Aryanism continues to be promoted in unexpected forms in contemporary India. Using a wide range of historical and contemporary sources, the author considers the consequences of Hindu nationalist resurgence in the light of contemporary debates about minorities, secular citizenship, ethics and modernity.

172 pages. try has been a fertile source of inspiration to the many writers and artists who have followed in his footsteps. In this collection Patti Smith has collected together her personal selection of Blake's poems, including the complete poems from the famous Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience, to give a singular picture of this unique genius. William Blake was born on 28 November 1757 in London. Instead of being sent to school he was given drawing classes from a young age. When he was fourteen he was apprenticed to the engraver James Basire and he later went on to work as an engraver, illustrator, printer and drawing teacher. In 1779 he became a student at the Royal Academy. In 1782 he married Catherine Boucher who was to become a great support to him throughout his life. His first collection of poems, Poetical Sketches was published in 1793. In 1789 he published Songs of Innocence which was followed by Songs of Experience in 1793. In the early 1800s he wrote his epic prophetic poems Milton and Jerusalem. He developed his own practice of illustrating his poetical works with his own etchings, producing beautifully illuminated editions. Blake's political beliefs were controversial for the times; he supported the French Revolution, condemned slavery and the subjugation of women. His religious beliefs were also idiosyncratic and he reported seeing visions of angels at various points in his life. Blake died, poor and in obscurity on 12 August 1827.

250 pages including illustrations. This book straddles the second and third millennia, looking back with affection at the children who went through the State educational system in Victoria half a century ago, and forward to a better education system for children born forty years hence. The thrust of the ideas in this book is that education systems may be slowly evolving to allow for the individual needs of the individual children in their care. As a primary teacher in the Victorian State system in the early 1950s, the accuracy of Brian Bock’s word pictures makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time.

Australia Wakefield Pr 1991 0949268143 / 9780949268143 Reprint Glossy Pictorial Soft Cover Very Good 12mo
195 pages including illustrations. This book tells the story of Vera Bockmann, born Vera Hoffmann at Siegersdorf, near Tanunda, into one of the Silesian families which arrived in South Australia in 1847. She is one of the very few Australians descended from early German migrants who reversed the procedure and returned to Germany, married, and lived there for the better part of 40 years. Mrs Bockmann spent the whole of the period of the Third Reich in Berlin, observing that society from the dichotomy of her German-British background. Here she tells her own story, that of a young wife and mother, against the growing tensions of the I930’s, then the privations and dangers of the war itself, culminating in the Battle for Berlin, and the Russian occupation in 1945. Vera Bockmann’s early years in Berlin meant hearing Klemperer, Kleiber and Richard Strauss conduct at the opera. In 1932 she and her husband also spent an evening at the Sport Palast hearing what this new man Hitler had to say for himself. By the time she saw him, with Goering, Goebbels and Hess, at the memorial service for King George V she had a very clear idea of what he was about. She appreciated the irony of the text for the service, to be a light to lighten the Gentiles/And to the Glory of the people of Israel. Author and historian, Decie Denholm has collaborated with Mrs Bockmann to edit Full Circle, and has written an introduction which places this fascinating story in its historical context.

260 pages. Basia Bonkowski has two children adopted from overseas (Colombia and Korea). Jesse's world covers the experiences of other families in her position and, as Basia writes, "the book is inspired by the short but wonderful life of a brave young Colombian boy called Jesse Scott who was adopted in 1992 but died six years later from a rare genetic disease of the brain." The book gives a bird's eye view of the "Global Family" which is how we have come to think of the links connecting the Australian families with the children they have adopted from overseas and the families and the networks back in those children's home countries. Basia presented the cult music show "Rock Around the World" on SBS TV in the early 80's. She has also worked for channel Ten and has produced documentaries.

200 pages including b/w illustrations and endnotes. Christine Bryden was a top civil servant and single mother of three children when she was diagnosed with dementia at the age of 46. Since then she has gone on to challenge almost every stereotype of people with dementia by campaigning for self-advocacy, writing articles and speaking at national conferences. This book is a vivid account of the author's experiences of living with dementia, exploring the effects of memory problems, loss of independence, difficulties in communication and the exhaustion of coping with simple tasks. She describes how, with the support of her husband Paul, she continues to lead an active life nevertheless, and explains how professionals and carers can help. Christine Bryden makes an outspoken attempt to change prevailing attitudes and misconceptions about the disease. Arguing for greater empowerment and respect for people with dementia as individuals, she also reflects on the importance of spirituality in her life and how it has helped her better understand who she is and who she is becoming. Contents: Preface. 1. A 'Roller-coaster' journey since early 1998. 2. 'Coming out' with dementia. 3. Let's talk about having dementia. 4. I know who I'll be when I die. Afterword. Appendix 1. Australia La Mancha Pub 1993 0646131095 / 9780646131092 1st Edition Glossy Soft Cover Very Good 12mo Avril Kimberlee
59 pages. Bymoy writes: "Some of these versed yams and ballads spring from my personal experiences as a knockabout working Australian. Other verses are jokes and yams told to me by others; friends, acquaintances, strangers. Still others are once well-known hoary old yarns, in the oral tradition of the bush, which I have re-told in what I hope is a new way, for a new generation. Few of them suffer from a lack of embroidery by way of added fantasy in the hope of making a good story better. It is surprising though, the number of them which are based on fact; fantasies with more than just an element of truth to them, with only the names changed to protect the guilty." Bymoy has worked in many jobs, many of them outdoors and it is obvious that he has observed much and absorbed most of it. Together, we offer this collection for your enjoyment and amusement. It all began when I was sitting one day in the bar of the Lake George Hotel in Bungendore with my friend Terry. He was telling me stories of his life as a child in outback West Australian towns. There were only a few other people in the bar, as it was a weekday early afternoon. He recounted the story of himself and his sister playing a prank on the yardman of the pub owned by their parents. It was a funny story, well told.
