He and I - Spiritual Journey of a Mystic, Bossis, Gabrielle
4 Bossis, Gabrielle He and I - Spiritual Journey of a Mystic
Mumbai St. Pauls Publications 2009 8171091547 / 9788171091546 Soft Cover Good 12mo
351 pages. Here is a book for all ages and all degrees of culture. It is written in "the language of the little ones", yet the profound depths of meaning defy even the mind of the savant. The great historian Daniel Rops described it as "an astonishing and beautiful story" and placed it among "the most authentic masterpieces of spiritual literature". "He and I" is the story of God and Gabrielle - Gabrielle Bossis - a French woman, born in 1874, who has given us a document that is not only timely but timeless, for it reaches ahead into the future - our future - "the new age of enlightenment" that has already dawned. Gabrielle Bossis was the very antithesis of the classical saint and mystic so often presented to us. She travelled widely, was wealthy and enjoyed exuberant health until the illness that carried her away in 1950. The writer of the short biographical sketch of her in "He and I" summarized her gift to us all, young and old. For her testament she left us "the peaceable record of Heaven". Heaven ... not for tomorrow in some far off Elysian field, but an eternal NOW, here as hereafter, by our atonement with Him in the Christ consciousness.

The book draws on scripture and wisdom. It is not a book of preaching or proclaiming the 'one way'. It is a book of help in a world of many ways. Openness, generosity, patience, kindness, joy are here in the context of Mary MacKillop's life and today. How to share and enrich our lives; whether busy or lonely, young or old. Mary MacKillop is a saint for these times. A sinner too. Excommunicated by her Church. An Australian with a message for everyone.

Images of Melbourne - Sketchbook, Dutton, Geoffrey
16 Dutton, Geoffrey Images of Melbourne - Sketchbook
Australia Houghton Mifflin 1989 0867700718 / 9780867700718 1st Edition Hard Cover Good Good 12mo Kay Stewart
64 pages. Melbourne is the most splendid and dignified of Australian cities, but this essential character does not impose any single image on Victoria’s capital. Kay Stewart and Geoffrey Dutton, in their selection of favourite images, have gone from the grand to the endearing, from the grim to the comic. And since human beings have given shape to all of these, even the Yarra River, there are no lonely monuments here. A sense of the people is everywhere. Sometimes it is all bustle and excitement, as in the Prahran Market or Luna Park; sometimes it is good, solid comfort, as in the Windsor Hotel or Menzies at the Rialto; and sometimes it is intimate, as in the Royal Arcade or Mietta’s restaurant. There are superb examples of the nineteenth-century architecture which constitutes one of the glories of Melboume. The original inspiration shines through, whether from Gothic England or Renaissance Italy, or even from the Romans or Greeks. But no less in evidence is the vision of those who brought their fancy to fruition, whether in the curves of St Vincent Place or in the audacity of transplanting Captain Cook’s cottage to the Treasury Gardens even if it is not really Captain Cook’s cottage. Kay Stewart’s drawings and Geoffrey Dutton’s text give an individual and affectionate flavour to the images of Melbourne, chosen from what is truly an embarrassment of riches.

18 Fawkner, Patty (editor) et al A Fair Go in an Age of Terror: Uniya's Jesuit Lenten Seminars 2003 & 2004
Australia David Lovell Publishing 2004 1863551077 / 9781863551076 1st Edition Glossy Pictorial Soft Cover Very Good 12mo
148 pages. Since September 11 2001, the world has been awash with fear and anger and intolerance. UNIYA, the Jesuit Social Justice Center, seeks to make a positive contribution to public debate within this climate through its Jesuit Lenten Seminars. This book contains the papers given by the principle speakers in 2003, Muslims and Christians - Where do we all stand?, and 2004, "A Fair Go in the Age of Terror." Contributions from some of the 2004 panel members are also included. These papers invite us, as individuals and as a nation, to expand our thinking. There is a shared recognition that terrorism cannot be destroyed by armaments and force. The more we resort to heavy-handedness in dealing with social and cultural grievances, the more we contribute to an 'artificial clash of civilisations', and the more we compromise our own rights and identity. All contributors to this book recognise that genuine and disciplined dialogue is one way forward. There is an implicit and explicit hope that we refrain from the discourse of fear, blame and reprisal, and recover the language of dialogue. Contributors: Dr Mohamad Abdalla - Honorary Research Advisor School of History, Philosophy, Religion and Classics at the University Of Queensland, panel member at Brisbane seminar. Teresa Bonello - Seventeen-year old high school student at Christ Catholic College Loyola Campus Mount Druitt, chair of the campus Student Representative Council, hopes to study Medical Science at Sydney University, panel member at Western Sydney seminar. Growing in Christ: a Practical Method, Fuster, J. M.
19 Fuster, J. M. Growing in Christ: a Practical Method
Australia St Pauls Pub 1983 0909986681 / 9780909986681 1st Edition Glossy Pictorial Soft Cover Very Good 12mo
211 pages. In spiritual growth there are two factors: divine factors and human factors. The divine factors are obviously the most important, but the human factors are also important, for without them no spiritual growth is possible. It is only the human factors that we can do something about. And the way we use the human factors will, in the final analysis, determine our spiritual growth. The first part of this book deals with some important obstacles in spiritual growth. The second part explains the meaning of growth in Christ and the third part presents a human technology of growing in Christ illustrated with many practical examples and charts. An epilogue explaining the technique of recycling the learning process of growing in Christ is included. J. M. Fuster is a jesuit Priest holding a Ph.D. in Psychology.

20 Gamble, Allan North Sydney Sketchbook
Australia Rigby 1982 0727008048 / 9780727008046 Reprint Hard Cover Good Good 8vo Ngaire Souter
55 pages including drawings. Less than 200 years ago, Aborigines, standing on the rocky foreshore of what is today the city of Sydney, would sometimes shade their eyes and point across the water to Warungarea, ‘the other side’. From the earliest days of settlement, when white men renamed this other side Hunter's Hill - through the robust smuggling, farming, business-building years of the ninteenth century, when it became East St Leonard's - North Sydney has been in a constant flux. By the 1860s the area was divided into three boroughs or municipalities, becoming East St Leonard s, (Milson s Point to Mount Street), St Leonard’s (the remaining whole of the North Shore proper) and Victoria (McMahon’s Point). Today, reduced in size somewhat, North Sydney is an impressive splinter city with lofty skyscrapers, fine restaurants, one of the best residential yachting clubs in the world, and, on the site of an early careening area for sailing ships, Australia’s first submarine squadron. Yet for all its sophistication, North Sydney still has nooks and crannies almost untouched by time. Don Bank, an early farmhouse, stands quietly between multi-storied buildings, St Thomas s implacable grey-stone face looks out on bustling streets instead of a tree-lined sulky track; Graythwaite, although no longer a private residence, retains the balmy peace of the past. Allan Gamble's delicate sketches accompany tales of old and new North Sydney told by Ngaire Souter. Ex-library markings/attachments or remnants of including two scratches in the back fly. There are sticky tape marks in the dj.
