xxii + 200 pages. Catholic writing in Australia is fresh vivid novel and often surprising. It has also become intensely personal. Once it spoke it an institutional voice with an official accent. In recent decades it has grown out of the experience of writers as they search for meaning and identity in a changing church and society. Catholic voices captures the best of this writing. Here is the Australian Vatican 2 generation working out it's answers to the challenges of being Christian at the end opf the twentieth century. These writers explore modern responses to sex, race, art, politics, church and lifestyles in individual voices, shich however different, remain authentically Catholic. Drawn from a wide variety of magazines, some well known some not, Catholic voices is an exciting discovery of an important part of Australian writing. Some of the best work in the country is here. The anthology shows that Catholic community still produces many of our sharpest voices.

Iolaus: An Anthology of Friendship, Carpenter, Edward (Editor)
10 Carpenter, Edward (Editor) Iolaus: An Anthology of Friendship
U.S.A. Pagan Press 1982 0943742005 / 9780943742007 Reprint Good 12mo
192 pages. Edward Carpenter (1844-1929) was an English socialist poet, philosopher and anthologist. He was renowned in his day as a poet, social reformer, and critic. He is chiefly remembered now as a pioneer advocate of sexual freedom. IOLAUS (eye-oh-LAY-us), a classic of homophile literature, surveys romantic friendship between males - in earliest and pagan times, classical antiquity, early Christian and mediaeval times, the Renaissance, and modern times. Carpenter draws upon 30 centuries of literary master-pieces, retrieving precious passages from the obscurity to which censorship and bowdlerism had relegated them. IOLAUS has now been out of print for over half a century, and copies are scarce. It is hoped that with this publication, a new generation of men will find inspiration in Carpenter's celebration of what he considered to be the human highest affinity: the "manly love of comrades". Creases and stains in the cover.

A Banquest of Memories: An Anthology of Multicultural Women's Writings and Recipes, D'Souza, Sally (editor)
13 D'Souza, Sally (editor) A Banquest of Memories: An Anthology of Multicultural Women's Writings and Recipes
Australia Multicultural Women's Advocacy 2005 0975777408 / 9780975777404 1st Edition Soft Cover Very Good 12mo
104 pages including b/w illustrations. Iulticultural women belong to many communities but we come together to talk about experiences we share as a woman, a worker, a mother, daughter, grandmother, and wife or as a lover. We talk about issues that concern us personally and those that affect us globally. We translate our social values and beliefs into the stories we tell to our children and in the way we cook our food and share it with our loved ones and our community. This book is about that - an invitation for you to hear about love, fear, sadness, joy, anger and all the other emotions that make us human. It's an invitation to see food presented in a different way, to smell and taste food differently and to feel it differently. This book is about realising who we are and what unites us; that we share the same emotions but hold different values and beliefs; that we eat food but cook it differently And that, we are all Australian women that comes from culturally diverse backgrounds. The achievement of this book is not possible without the support of the Management Committee of MWA, especially Grace Concannon, Paulina Hellec, Ioelle Vandermensbrugghe, Daisy Brenner and Lulu Respall-Turner. I would also like to thank the generous support, time and effort of the wonderful editorial team, Margaret Annis, Io Forestier and Sanaz Fotouhi.

19 Gray, Robert; Lehmann, Geoffrey - selected By The Younger Australian Poets
Australia Hale & Iremonger 1983 0868060658 / 9780868060651 1st Edition Soft Cover Good 12mo
207 pages. This book is the first anthology of the Australian 'poetry explosion' of the 1970s and early 1980s to represent all major styles. It transcends the controversy of recent years to reveal a body of work which is imaginative, diverse, powerful, often funny, always exciting. The editors have applied an exacting critical standard and have used as their criterion for selection the merit of the individual work rather than conformity to a particular literary school. Their perceptive introduction analyses the Australian poetic tradition and gives an overview of recent developments. The selection from each poet is introduced by a succinct and illuminating critical note. Among the 29 contributors are Les A. Murray, John Tranter, Susan Hampton, Roger McDonald, Mark O'Connor, Rhyll McMaster, Gary Catalano, Nigel Roberts, John Forbes and Michael Dransfield. This is a browning book...
